Jerky Treats have become an increasingly popular and healthier alternative to rawhide and other manufactured chews. If made from high quality meats, jerky can be a very healthy and highly desirable snack for your dog.

Jerky treats are made through the process of dehydration. Dehydration is a low-temperature process that preserves temperature sensitive nutrients and vitamins much better than baking or cooking. High-quality jerky is therefore rich in a variety of vitamins and nutrients such as Chondroitin, known to support hips and joints. Dehydrated meat is also a very dense source of lean protein. For example, single ingredient jerky made from beef, salmon or chicken is extremely leanand this kind of jerky a great treat for all dogs, especially those on a diet.

The dehydration process leaves the treats with a low water content; resulting in the jerky’s rough and chewy texture. So, while your pup is gnawing on their jerky treat, they are also in the process of removing of plaque and tartar build-up. Removing that build-up helps improves your fur babies overall dental hygiene.

That leads us to the question, what jerky chew is right for my dog? We have some suggestions for pups of all shapes and sizes. If you have a smaller dog, we would suggest our Jerky Bites. These treats are low calorie and rich in essential amino acids which support your dog’s muscles, brain, skin and coat. Their smaller size will keep your pup satisfied without overwhelming them. However, if you have a larger dog or a more aggressive chewer, we would suggest our 9-10” Jerky Chews. These chews have all of the same health benefits but a sturdier texture that will keep your pup chewing long into the night, really getting the most out of your chew.

At Nature Gnaws, our chews are made from 100% grass-fed, free-range, all-natural meat, completely free of hormone injections or genetic modification, and with no added flavors or preservatives - because nothing is too good for our dogs.
